Travelers Guarantee Company of Canada was incorporated by Letters Patent pursuant to the Canadian and British Insurance Companies Act in July, 1988 as Longroup Insurance Company. On June 26th 1995, the Company acquired the business previously written by Wellington Guarantee, a division of Wellington Insurance Company and the Company name was changed to London Guarantee Insurance Company. On March 21st 2002, the Company was acquired by St Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of The St Paul Companies, Inc., based in St. Paul Minnesota. On January 1, 2003, London Guarantee Insurance Company changed its name to St Paul Guarantee Insurance Company. Effective January 1, 2004, Northern Indemnity, Inc., a related company whose parent was also The St Paul Companies, Inc., amalgamated with St Paul Guarantee Insurance Company. In April 1 2004, The St Paul Travelers Companies Inc. was formed through a merger of The St. Paul Companies, Inc. and Travelers Property Casualty Corp. On January 1 2005, St. Paul Guarantee Insurance Company amalgamated with Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of Canada. On January 1, 2007, St Paul Guarantee Insurance Company changed its name to Travelers Guarantee Company of Canada ("Travelers Guarantee").
Today, Travelers Guarantee is the Canadian operation for Travelers representing the amalgamation of London Guarantee Insurance Company, Northern Indemnity, Seaboard Surety of Canada and Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of Canada. Travelers Guarantee specializes in niche products in the property and casualty marketplace and offers a wide range of surety, warranty, fidelity, and liability insurance products through its regional offices in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
